Hi guys,

this post is only relevant to those in my history tutorial group, which is Aleena, Jeannie, Amy, Jia Xin, Emma and Julianne.

A gentle reminder, our history presentation is TOMMORROW.

" How far can the developements between 1945-1948 sustain the contention that Soviet Union was systematically exectuing its master plan to spread Soviet Union Communism worldwide?"

Mr Yoong wants this done in powerpoint presentation. Since we have seven people, I suggest that four of you do the slides, and two people present. Those four who are doing the slides, please email me your slides by 9pm today so I can add on, edit and compile. Email to elizabethsusanjoseph@gmail.com

I suggest Aleena and Amy present, and the rest of us do the slides. However, if you guys are unhappy with doing the slides and wanna present instead (and vice versa), please find someone within the group who is willing to swop with you, and then let me know (so I know who to stalk if I don't receive their email, lol)

So Emma, Julianne, Jia Xin and Jeannie, if you all are ok with doing the slides, please do about 2-3 slides each and then email to me tonight so I can add on my own stuff and edit also.

As for Amy and Aleena, if you all are ok with presenting, I'll send you the final presentation before 11pm, so you can familiarize yourself with the powerpoints slides so you know what to present and come up with your scripts etc. I know 11pm is rather late, so I suggest you read up on lecture 5 to familiarize yourself with the topic, then do your script in school tomorrow.

If there's anything you need to ask, do call/sms me at 64625573/97985885. If there are any other suggestions, do post them up here or sms us to let us know.

One last thing, can we stay back for a short while after Mr Yoong's tutorial for a short while? I think we really need to discuss a better system to do our tutorials in the future.

Enjoy whatever is left of the weeked! :)

Love,
Liz <3

Hey all,

Ms Zhou will be on course on Monday so she won't be in school, but she will upload work onto Moodle TOMORROW. Please print out the work she uploads and bring it to class on Monday, i'm supposed to collect it by the end of that lesson so you guys really have to bring it ok! :)

I also informed Ms Zhou that quite a number of us haven't received the new PW PI template yet, so she's extending the deadline to Tuesday, latest Wednesday. This means all of us MUST get the template from Jeremy by Monday so that we can meet the deadline.

Also take note that our Lit Lecture on Monday will be extended by half an hour, so it'll be 5.30pm to 7p.m. Remember to PREPARE for the lesson so that everything will go smoothly and we won't have to do any more make-ups ok! :) And as always, CCAs take precedence over this lesson. Let me know in advance if you can't make it.

One more thing... All those who have CCAs that fall on MONDAY or TUESDAY afternoon/evening, please let me know! I have to compile a list of names. Either tag on the tagboard or sms me ok? This is really important because I have to send Ms'K the list by Monday.

Thanks guys :)

God Bless,
Amy

Hey guyss! Jodie here to tell u guys more about learning fest! =D

We'll be designing shoes and all of us have to design at least 2 pairs of shoes to sell. It'll be pretty fun cuz...

About GeePee...

Functions of Marriage - Are they still relevant today?

Large situations of failing marriages...WHY?

  • Individualism - Where people begin caring more about themselves, situations of self-centeredness: caring less about yourself than your other half
  • Lack of communication...

FUNCTIONS OF MARRIAGE:

Emotional Support:

  • Bliss
  • Joy
  • Keeping each other company
  • Jubilance
  • Sticking together
  • Happy family
  • Warmth
  • Acceptance of partner
  • Fulfilling of life objective
  • Road to everlasting happiness
  • Unity
  • Validate love
  • "Till death do us part"
  • Inseparable

Marriage as Commitment:

  • Oppression
  • Protection of child's bi-parental childhood
  • Joining of two people
  • Bethrothal; Divorce
  • Obligation

Procreation:

  • Procreating to sustain the population
  • Kids, Family
  • Babies
  • Reproduce

Societal Benefits/Expectations:

  • Reproduction (contributing to population)
  • Verication of status for admistrative purposes (HDB Flats)
  • Old age - need someone to take care of you
  • Company of another person
  • That it is a must.

Conferment of Rights (Legal):

  • Beneficiaries - acquire money after the death of a partner
  • To legally bond 2 people together
  • Establish a joint fund of property; a partnership
  • Need to be bonded together legally
  • Joint parental rights
  • Freedom

Practical Reasons:

  • Wealth, Bridewealth
  • Personal identity
  • Honor; family name
  • Union - agreements between families.

Are these truly relevant?

e.g Legal rights - Married couples enjoy as many as 1,400 rights automatically conferred upon them like

  • Joint parenting
  • Status as next of kin for medical decisions & hospital visitations
  • Eligibility to buy an HDB flat
  • Joint filliing of customs claims
  • Bereavement/sick leave to care for partner or child

But does it mean that if you're not married you can't have e.g Joint parenting?

  • Nope - you can have joint parenting by signing legal documents etc. Therefore marriage may not be totally necessary

e.g Emotional support - What about Co-habitation??

  • Cohabitation replaces many of the emotional functions but still unable to replace many benefits of marriage - e.g commitment, legal bonding?
  • Cohabiters value independence more than others - eg less likely to financtially support partner, face commitment issues
  • Cohabiters who get married have higher rates of divorce. Why?
  • Cohabiters may face a lack of mutual understanding; unsure of their motives.

e.g Marriage as commitment

  • Is marriage a reliable vow for commitment?
  • Reasons for failed marriage: Incompatibility, financial problems, etc.
  • Divorce! Fears push men to guard assets (prenups)
  • When is divorce a feasible decision? Is it better for a dysfunctional family to stay together or break up?
  • Repercussions of failed marriage: Loneliness, battle over child custody, self-esteem, economic burden, ostracise by community, psychological effect on children, financial loss

e.g Procreation - Is it a must to get married to HAVE BABIES?

  • There's always adoption
  • Shopping for babies; spermbank.
  • Just get PREGNANT; out of wedlock. BUT WHEN CAN doesn't mean should - single parent families, impoverished children, future jail-ed, broken families...

MARRIAGE THROUGH THE TIMES....

  • Marriage then and now
  • Marriage has been an amazingly flexible institution; changing through time, the needs and the requirements of marriage, and its intention.]

With all the hard work comes the birth of an essay....

Is it still relevant? take a second, think about it.

Hey lovely 09A07, do check the MOODLE page aite for the slides from THE GEEPEE tutor. Hope the notes help ((:

Y 8:40 PM

Hey guys :)

Here are the groupings for the "Features of comedy and farce" assignment for Lit.
(BELOW this long post is Alex's post on the needs of assignment!)

Group 1 (INDUCTION)
------------------------------
Jannah
Joyene
Elizabeth
Asyraf

Group 2 (ACT 1)
--------------------
Joel
Jia xin
Timothy
Jodie
Kevin

Group 3 (ACT 2)
--------------------
DJ
Alex
Nicholas
JT
Reshveen

Group 4 (ACT 3)
---------------------
Kelley
Leanne
Jeannie
Sian Pei

Group 5 (ACT 4)
---------------------
Amy
Fatimah
Weng Keong
Samuel

Group 6 (ACT 5)
--------------------
Shahera
Aleena
Teri
Julianne
Emma
---

If there are any problems with the groupings let me know! Take note that the maximum number of slides is 25, so the breakdown per group is an average of 3 slides. You don't have to worry about the slides for now, but just pick out the most relevant and good examples from the Act that you are assigned to, and explore how they are used for comedic value in the play.

3x6=18 slides, and then the remaining 7 can be used for spillovers (although we should try to avoid this!) and other things, like defining comedy and farce and also for visuals and external examples.

We are supposed to come up with the timeline by this Wednesday and I don't have anything definite for now, but I was thinking along the lines of this:

There are exactly 4 weeks and 2 days from the 8th of April till the 8th of May, so we'll use that as a guideline ok?

TENTATIVE TIMELINE
-----------------------------
8 April -15 April: Familiarise yourselves with the Act that is assigned to your group

15 April - 23 April: By this week, you should have already drawn out the examples that you want to use to demonstrate features of comedy and farce in the play. Start preparing the slides.

23 April - 29 April: Complete the slides for the Act that your group is assigned to. By this week, we should all also compile the slides and start to familiarise ourselves with all the other groups' slides.

29 April - 6 May: Besides the 3 slides that you prepared for the Act you are assigned to, within your groups, you should also help with finding appropriate visuals and 1 or 2 external examples of comedy and farce. Send these to the compiler (tentatively Alex and I) by 3rd May. The remaining 3 days should be spent looking through the compiled slides and committing them to memory.

6 May - 8 May: Get ready to present because it could be any one of us that our lit teacher chooses to call!

*TAKE NOTE: Remember where you get any visuals/external information from, because we need to include a bibliography at the end.
--

Ok guys that's all, sorry for the insanely long post.. Hope it's clear though. If you guys want to clarify anything, you can ask me in school tomorrow or something. :) Oh and if you have any suggestions on how to improve the delegation/timeline, let me know too please!

See you all tomorrow, God Bless!
Amy

Features of Comedy & Farce

Salutations

Our venerable leader, Miss K, has blessed us with [even] more homework! Read and recieve divine elucidation.

Features of comedy and farce. How are they to be seen in the play?

  • Final Deadline: Friday 8th May 12.00noon
  • Preliminary Deadline: Wednesday 8th April 12noon for detailed timeline of completion as well as breakdown of duties
Details:
  • You are to submit your research as a power point presentation limited to no more than 25 slides maximum. You are to ensure that there is a bibliography that acknowledges ALL your sources including picutres.
  • Your project will eventually be presented to the cohort in a lecture. The skeleton of who will present on behalf of the class will be made by miss K ( meta-hero
  • (added by Jannah) This will take a pretty strong hold on your CA marks, as whatever the K wishes it to be - and according to her, she'll judge EVERYONE the same, so we ALL gotta put in effort, all the class' total grade will go.. *poof*!!
  • IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ETC YOU ARE TO ASK!

That is all, fellow comrades. May the fire of a thousand suns, and the blessings of the K warm your being, that you may comprehend the height of this divine expositioning.

Hey aseven :D

Well, just a little round of updates and stuff about things, in our world and in THE world!

Cashing in!!
Jist: In the US (Washington), a widow just cashed in a total of approximately US$145million from a lawsuit. The case: suing Philip Morris (see the tiny PM in the picture?), known tobacco company -think Malboro- for the death of her husband due to lung cancer.

I don't know if I ought to feel disturbed. The court awarding the wife of a very adult man for damages due to smoking - I'm sure many of us, from the age of 5, already knew of the apparent damages that smoking can bring about in the human body. I mean, is the already GORY photos on cigarette packages not apparent enough? I don't know, it's just as if the court is allowing people to run away from the consequences of their actions.

P/S:The man smoked about 3 packets/a day for about 47years. You've gotta be kidding me. (Link's in the title!)

Anyhow:
  1. Prepare for HISTORY tutorials. There are questions pertaining to both Lectures 4 and 5 that requires preparations!!!
  2. There's a compulsory make-up Literature lesson with the K on Saturday, 4th April, 8.30-11.30am. Venue is to be confirmed.
  3. Start on Maths tutorial 2 :D
  4. PAY CLASS FUND if you haven't. You don't get to enjoy having notes if you don't pay up!! ((:
About today...in a nutshell.
(chronologically)
Learnt what we did wrong in Burma MSA. Learnt about the diff policies of USSR and how it affected cold war. More confusing shit information on wuthering heights, transgression, dreams and 70times7. "Cockroach" in Z's Wuthering Heights text & MORE scoldings (hee). ASEAN: map->location->importance->ideas! LUUURVE language. FAMILY.

And so tomorrow...

LONG DAY IN SCHOOL - extra Lit lecture for Z tomorrow. Physical Education (zomg!).

Goodluck lovelies.
jaye.
